Experiential Learning Funds for Internships or Research

Students may apply for up to $1500 of funding that enables their participation in an internship or research opportunity. Funds may be used for transportation to the location of the opportunity, program fees or tuition, extra housing and food costs, conference participation, equipment, or any other reasonable expense necessary to participate.

Apply
July 15 for fall
November 15 for spring
April 15 for summer

Student Eligibility
currently enrolled student seeking a degree from CAS
good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
have applied to an internship or research opportunity that has a documented application process (opportunity must be secured before funding is disbursed)
enrolled for the term immediately following the internship or research experience (before funding is disbursed)
preference will be given to students with a level of financial need as determined by a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid
Experience Eligibility
Experiences may be in-person or virtual, taking place in any term. Students may be engaged full-time in the experience (likely summer terms) or be taking courses in addition to the experience.

Internships
Non-international internships (international internships should go though the Education Abroad funding process)
6 weeks or longer with at least 90 hours of work
employer provides resources, equipment, and facilities needed to perform daily tasks
employer offers regular supervision and feedback by a professional with expertise and background in the field
Research
REU programs external to the university
Conference participation associated with any research experience
Costs associated with publishing in scholarly journals
Credit
Students receiving experiential learning funds will be expected to enroll in one of these courses during the semester of the experience to ensure strong planning, learning outcomes, and reflection:

CASC 95: Internship (zero credit)
CASC 395: Internship (1-6 credits)
CASC 98: Undergraduate Research (zero credit)
another experiential learning course relevant to the student's academic program

Global Learning
Additional funds are available for study abroad, virtual programs, and international internships. The Education Abroad Office administers the college funds and offers suggestions for other sources of support.
