Undergraduate Summer Research Experience!
Environmental Science & Chemistry

Are you interested in helping support clean lakes, streams, and rivers in Nebraska? Want to gain experience working in an environmental science lab? Does building markable skills working in a research lab and learning new techniques in the laboratory interest you? The Ecosystem Stoichiometry lab, run by Dr. Jessica Corman, is looking for 1 – 2 undergraduates to work as research assistants this summer!

Student research assistantships will be laboratory-based. Each student will work with Alan Warden and other undergraduates. This position includes lab analysis and data analysis. The purpose for the position is to prepare and analyze water and other environmental samples collected. Student research assistantships will gain experience using common laboratory techniques including discrete nutrient analysis, ion chromatography, carbon assessment, spectrophotometry, and fluorometry. Students will also learn how to perform analyses with clean techniques.

Requirements:
The ability and willingness to work with chemicals in a safe manner.
An interest in biology, chemistry, and/or ecology
Detail-orientation
Willingness to learn new skills (previous laboratory skills not necessary)
Ability to follow directions and work independently, as well as work on a team.

Essential Function
- Assist the lab technician with running samples and prepping reagents
- Following standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Perform other duties assigned by the lab technician
- Strong organizational skills and strong work ethic
- Help with general lab upkeep and dishes.

Location:
Hardin Hall 115, School of Natural Resources, University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus

Pay and Duration:
$13/hr; May 24th – Aug 23st (somewhat negotiable); 30 – 40 hrs/week
Opportunities for promotion may be available.
