Applications are open for Young Nebraska Scientists (YNS) summer programs throughout the state in 2022, including:

DAY CAMPS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS:
• July 11-13 … NEW! Engineering Plant Cell Walls -- University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL)
• July 25-27 ... The Secret Life of Metals – Creighton University; Omaha, NE

CAMPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:
• June 1-3 ... NEW! How the Cookie Crumbles – UNL Food Science @ Nebraska Innovation Campus, Lincoln (Residential)
• June 5-10 ... Biodiversity -- UNL Cedar Point Biological Station, Ogallala, NE (Residential)
• June 13-14 … Chemistry and Nanoscience Behind Renewable Energy Technologies, University of Nebraska–Lincoln (Virtual)
• June 20-23 … Explorations in Biology Camp – Nebraska Wesleyan University; Lincoln, NE (Residential)

For more than 12 years, each summer 100+ youths attend YNS camps, which include hands-on science experiences and recreation opportunities at college campuses throughout Nebraska. Camp fees include meals and lodging, except virtual and “day” camps (see yns.nebraska.edu/camps for specifics). Camps application deadline is May 1.

Applications close March 1 for YNS High School Researchers (HS juniors preferred), with paid summer jobs in the labs of university scientists.

YNS is conducted by Nebraska EPSCoR to encourage youth participation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning and careers. National Science Foundation funding (via OIA-2044049) helps keep YNS camp fees low; need-based scholarships for YNS camps are readily available. Faculty from Nebraska colleges and universities are YNS camp leaders, and camp staff include university students. YNS camps and high school researchers follow the safety protocols of the host campus.
