Register now for the Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes course GEOS 898: Methods in Geoscience Field Instruction, running June 14-29!

This three-credit geoscience field course is offered through the Center for Science, Mathematics, and Computer Education's Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes and the Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Directed toward in-service teachers (target Grades 5-12), the course comprises a 16-day inquiry-based field course and science immersion discovery experience in Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota. The primary aims of this course are to improve educators' ability to teach inquiry, gain knowledge and understanding of geoscience, and to demonstrate effective teaching methods that teachers can integrate into K-12 science learning environments. We demonstrate and discuss the NGSS-style 3-D framework within course activities. Don't miss this authentic science experience where, through problem-solving and discovery learning, you will figure out the history of the Rocky Mountains! See the course flyer [PDF] for more information.

NOTE: Funds are available to cover all of the costs of the trip. In addition, a limited number of full-tuition fellowships are available upon application for teachers in NE Title I and/or Nebraska rural schools as part of the NSF-funded GeoNet program. As in past years, we are also able to provide $300 in tuition support upon application to other teachers. Submit your application [PDF] for tuition support by May 15.

2025 will be our 21st year offering the course, and more than 200 teachers have participated over the years. Please consider joining the journey this year as we will not offer the course in 2026.

We’d appreciate if you would forward this information to other teachers in your network. Thanks for your help spreading the word!
