Kevin had such an important impact on teaching at UNL, and he played a pivotal role in laying the foundation for discipline-based education research (DBER) on campus. Kevin co-led some of the first workshops on Just-in-Time Teaching (JiTT) and Peer Instruction (PI), in collaboration with Marilyne Stains. He played an integral role in the NSF-funded ARISE program, which helped further promote research-based instructional practices. Many of our current DBER faculty can trace our paths back to Kevin in one way or another. Kevin had a creative mind for developing instructional tools, and he did a massive service to the community by making these tools continuously available. He also hosted the Nebraska Physics and Astronomy Summit, which brought together educators and researchers from across the state. On a personal note, I always enjoyed talking with Kevin, and I appreciated his steadfast commitment to educating, challenging, and supporting our students. I will miss his presence—but he will be long remembered—within UNL community.
A Celebration of Life will be Friday, June 20th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Morrill Hall on the UNL campus.
