By investigating community issues in math and science classes, this course, offered through Knowles Teacher Initiative, aims to promote equitable teaching practices that are culturally relevant. Learn how students engaging in the engineering design process can deepen their understanding of the struggles seen within their community. This process will also make students feel empowered to design solutions for these struggles they are seeing and also advocate for their implementation.
The course is led by experienced teachers who have also integrated these processes into their classrooms. Participants should expect to engage in high quality engineering projects while discussing associated community issues, and learn how the practice of engineering can help their students develop those solutions. You will develop skills for facilitating the engineering design process in your classroom and also identify where you can implement empowered engineering projects in your curriculum.
Courses take place every Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. CT from Febr. 24-March 31 via Zoom. A $25 registration fee is required to secure a spot in the course. Attendees who complete 5 out of the 6 courses and complete a small feedback survey will receive a $50 gift card. There is allotted time at the send of the final session to complete the feedback survey.
