UNL faculty a recently received funding through the National Science Foundation to provide 2 geoscience field trips at no cost to the participants. Two trips will run in summer 2016: one for pre-service educator majors and one for high school juniors and seniors.

The course directed towards pre-service education majors will run from June 11th-16th, 2016. It comprises a 16-day, inquiry-based field course and a science immersion and discovery experience in Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota. The primary aim of this course is to expose education majors to geoscience principles to improve an educators' ability to teach inquiry, gain knowledge and understanding of geoscience, and to demonstrate effective teaching methods that can integrate geoscience into K-12 learning environments. Tuition scholarships will be provided for all participants.

The Bridge Program for high school juniors and seniors begins with 9 days camping in Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota, and 3 days on the UNL campus in preparation for a rewarding academic and professional career in the Geosciences. The primary aim of the Program is to expose incoming students with an interest in the Earth Sciences to the Earth and its history, and to provide an engaging introduction into college life and studies with a cohort of other learners and instructors. The Bridge program runs from July 15th to 26th.
