Husker Dialogues
Husker Dialogues

At Nebraska, we believe in the power in every person. Huskers empower other Huskers to use their voices. As we strive to inclusive excellence on our campus, we encourage you to challenge what you know and join the conversation at this year’s Husker Dialogues.

What is Husker Dialogues?

It is an annual event for first-year students. The event focuses on empowering our scholars to have courageous conversations centered on diversity and inclusion. This year’s discussion will be a virtual, multi-night experience.

You can support this event by becoming a conversation guide or encouraging your first-year peers to participate.

Here are five reasons why you and your friends should join the conversation:

1. You will learn something new.
Husker Dialogues is a University-wide effort dedicated uplifting diverse student voices. Hearing from other scholars who have unique experiences gives you the chance to learn what it may be like to be them.

2. You can gain valuable skills.
Some say dialogue is a lost art in our day in age. "Cancel culture” seeks to shut out other voices. A "dialogue" seeks to understand them. This is not a debate. At Nebraska, every person and every interaction matters.

3. You might find a mentor.
Being a conversation guide is a key part of building the Husker Dialogues experience. This will connect you to several faculty and staff members across campus who care about you. Meet individuals dedicated to making your Husker experience meaningful—ensuring you and your peers are valued, seen and heard.

4. You may make a new friend.
Community is essential to the Husker experience. Build connections with other students searching for belonging on campus. You may end up having a lifelong friend!

5. You can be the change.
We use our collective strengths to do BIG things. Every Husker has a role in creating an inclusive community. We don’t have to agree on everything. We should challenge our thinking with humility and suspend our judgments. You can help set the tone.
