One in five college students say their mental health has significantly worsened during the coronavirus pandemic according to a survey conducted by Active Minds. To help the university community prevent suicide, Big Red Resilience and Well-being is offering two upcoming REACH© suicide prevention gatekeeper training sessions.
REACH, an acronym that stands for the steps in the process of preventing suicide, teaches participants to: recognize warning signs, engage with empathy, ask directly about suicide, communicate hope, and help suicidal individuals access care and treatment.
Each 90-minute training is offered in-person and pre-registration is required to ensure physical distancing can be followed. Participants also are expected to wear their face coverings throughout the session.
Register for the student session held from 3 to 4:30 p.m., September 16.
For those interested in online suicide prevention training, Big Red Resilience and Well-being offers free access codes for QPR training.
