More than 2,500 students met with over 265 employers at the University In-Person Career Fair this fall. And career development was going on elsewhere, too:

• More than 6,000 Career Coaching meetings across campus took place.
• Over 42,00 applications for internships, and full and part-time jobs were sent through Handshake.
• 85.6% of Nebraska students have activated their account.

Students connected with careers and professionals through a variety of programs including the UNL Majors Fair, Women of Color in STEM, Pride in the Workplace, Career Spotlights, Science at Work, Gaining Experience as a Pre-Law Student, Employer in Residence, and Career Meet-Ups in Public Administration and Policy and in Health and Wellness.

“Everyday at work I learn something new!”
– Izzy, an intern at both Hudl and with Husker Athletics (Experience Survey, 2021)

Other UNL students reported experiences on the Experience Survey, such as:

  • Veterinary Volunteer
  • Global Peer Assistant
  • Sustainable Energy Intern
  • Social Media Chair
  • Merchandising Intern
  • Husker Pantry Volunteer
  • Research Technician
Shimin, a researcher at a pharmaceutical company, recognized the career exploration benefit of their experience, “I was also excited to learn more what it is like to work in the industry… This experience was very informative for my career decisions.”

Attending career fairs can help students know how to prepare for future networking opportunities. “I personally went into the fair knowing that I wanted to get a feel for how the event works, how to approach employers, and what to talk about,” said a survey participant who is a first-year student.
