Lincoln Marathon to alter campus parking, traffic

Sunday, May 1 is the Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon. The start and finish lines are both on City Campus. For students living on campus, this may affect your parking and traffic choices on Saturday and Sunday.

The race starts at 6:55 a.m. and all participants should clear the start area and campus by 8 a.m.

The race route on campus and areas affected by the race:

• The races begins at Vine Street, between 14th and 16th Streets.

• Runners will first travel east on Vine Street, through the intersections with 16th & 17th Streets.

• When runners reach the Beadle Center, they will turn south onto 19th Street, headed towards University Health Center and Eastside Suites.

• When 19th Street curves into R Street, runners will continue on R Street until 16th Street (passing 50/50, 17th & R Parking Garage, and Knoll Residence Center).

• Runners will turn south onto 16th Street, entering downtown and departing campus.

Due to the race route, several parking bans and other traffic issues will affect campus residents. Pay attention to posted signs and signals in these areas.

PARKING BANS (meters will be hooded)
• R Street between 16th and 17th Streets
• 19th Street south of Vine Street
• 16th Street, south of R Street

Cars will be towed on Sunday morning if parked in the areas listed above.

Vehicles parked on 17th Street south of Vine Street (by The Courtyards) will not have an exit until the start of the race is over.

Drivers parked in the large surface lot north of the Knoll & Eastside Suites complex will have difficulty exiting that lot until the race clears the campus area. If possible, use the exit to 17th Street, then south to R Street. Use the coned-off lane along R Street to travel westbound towards 14th Street.

Drivers parked in both the 17th and R Garage and the 50/50 garage will be forced to exit to the south onto Q st.

ADDITIONAL CAMPUS INFO
The Campus Rec Center will delay opening until 12 p.m. on May 1 (usually 9 a.m.), due to its locations near the race's start line.
