Passport? Check. Airline tickets? Check. Itinerary? Check. But what about your health clearance and immunizations?

If you plan to travel internationally this summer, whether for vacation, an Education Abroad program or other purpose, now is the time to schedule a visit with the University Health Center Travel Clinic. These individualized consultations prepare you for safe travel and are often required for certain travel destinations. Each visit includes:

  • Required immunizations for travel
  • Prophylaxis prescriptions (when required)
  • Up-to-date travel health advisories
  • Information on how to stay healthy while traveling to your specific country

Appointments book quickly, so don’t delay. If possible, schedule two to three months before your anticipated departure date or sooner if you need a series of immunizations. Call 402.472.5000 to schedule a visit.

Here are five tips from the Travel Clinic provider to help you have a safe, healthy trip:
  1. Set a reminder to pick up your prescription refills before leaving and keep your meds in their original containers during travel.
  2. Pack a roll of toilet paper, hand disinfectant, bandages and first aid cream. You never know when you’ll need it!
  3. When you arrive, spend time in the sunlight to help your body reset its natural time clock and eat meals at the local time.
  4. Drink only boiled or bottled water and beverages, and avoid ice.
  5. Use caution when swimming. Don’t go barefoot on the beach, and never swim in rivers, lakes or streams. Remember to pack and regularly apply sunscreen.
