More than 200 needed to lead Husker Dialogues in the fall

Husker Dialogues
Husker Dialogues

Held in early September annually, Husker Dialogues is a safe place for education and conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusion. The one-night event provides first-year students and the Husker community with the tools to begin or continue their inclusive excellence journey at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

For the 2023 edition, close to 3,000 first-year Huskers will gather in the Coliseum on the evening of Sept 6, 2023. Attendees will placed into small groups with approximately ten other first-year Huskers and converse among each other about their varied experiences, backgrounds, identities, and ideas.

At the conclusion of the evening, the first-year students will exit with skills for engaging in respectful conversations with new individuals whose life experiences may be varied and different then their own.

A mix of 200–300 upperclass students, staff, and faculty are needed as volunteer Husker Conversation Guides (HCGs) to lead and facilitate the new students in the evening's activities.

Sign up here to be a Conversation Guide.

New HCGs are required to complete a comprehensive training session, with a virtual option being offered. Available training dates start May 1 and continue through the summer. HCGs only need to participate in one training date.

Current Huskers will be at an advantage to sign up and complete the training prior to departing campus in mid-May - you won't need to attend a training during the summer.

Students who trained as a HCG in the previous two years will only have to complete a refresher session, instead of a full training.
