Explore and Understand: Homelessness

Homelessness is defined by a lack of adequate and fixed housing or shelter. This is not limited those without permanent homes, as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) expands the definition to include individuals or families living in emergency shelters, transitional housing or places not meant for habitation. The issue of homelessness affects people of all ages, genders, ethnicities and household sizes

People City Mission
September 25 | 10 a.m. to Noon

People City Mission provides homeless shelter housing for men, women, and children in the Lincoln area. Students will have the opportunity to organize donations and distribute items to guests.

Project Connect Lincoln
September 26 | 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Project Connect Lincoln is a one-day, one-stop event for essential services and support for anyone experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Students will have the opportunity to assist with checking participants into the event, serving as participant guides, and helping with set up and tear down.

Good Neighbor Community Center
September 27 | 10 a.m. to Noon

The Good Neighbor Community Center provides basic and emergency needs to low-income individuals or anyone in need of our services. Students have the opportunity to assist with organizing items and distributing items to guests.

September 28 | 2 to 4 p.m.

Transformation Thrift Store works hard to make sure the store is inviting and comfortable and the merchandise is in good repair, high quality, and competitively priced. Students will have the opportunity to sort clothing items and distribute items to participants.

September 29 | 10 a.m. to Noon

The Center for People provides the basic needs and educational opportunities necessary for low-income individuals and families to improve their lives. Students will have the opportunity to assist with food distribution and sorting donated items.
