Explore and Understand: Health Risk Factors

It is widely known that Americans’ health status has declined. Lincoln, like the U.S., is experiencing increasing rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease deaths, and other indicators. Lincoln, however, still has lower rates than the U.S. as a whole on many measures.

Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital
October 23 | 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals leads the nation in providing medical and physical rehabilitation for adults and children. Students will have the opportunity to help run bingo and casino games for seniors at the nursing home.

Aging Partners Senior Centers
October 24 | 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Aging Partners plans, coordinates and advocates for older people in our eight-county area. Students will have opportunity to help facilitate activities (bingo, Cards) and assist with doing yard work around the building.

Friendship Home
October 25 | 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Friendship Home is an organization of people who are passionate about helping survivors of domestic violence and their children. Students will have the opportunity to organize donations.

Mourning Hope provides grief support groups, counseling, community education, resources and referrals. Students will have the opportunity to assist with organizing donations and playing boardgames with participants.

October 27 | 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Tabitha, a mission-focused nonprofit, offers Nebraska’s first and only comprehensive line of Senior Care services. Students will have the opportunity to assist by playing bingo with seniors, having 1 on 1 conversations with seniors and assist with cleaning around the building..
