QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training available for UNL parents and families

One in five college students say their mental health has significantly worsened during the coronavirus pandemic (Active Minds 2020). As we’ve moved into virtual learning, students have identified that they would like more help related to their emotional well-being. Parents and families play a very important role in offering that support, as you may be one of the only direct contacts students have during this period of time.

To help equip parents with more knowledge about emotional well-being, Big Red Resilience & Well-being is offering QPR (Question. Persuade. Refer.) Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper training online for parents/families of current UNL students. The three steps of QPR include:

1. Question the individual's desire or intent regarding suicide.
2. Persuade the person to seek and accept help.
3. Refer the person to appropriate resources.

The QPR training takes about 60 minutes to complete online. After completing the training, participants earn a certificate designating them as a suicide prevention gatekeeper. To request QPR access, please go to https://preventsuicide.unl.edu/qpr-training.
