Counseling and Psychological Services staff offer individual counseling and group sessions through Zoom. Students are required to be in the state of Nebraska to be able to receive services remotely. Although this causes limitations for out-of-state students, many students across the state of Nebraska continue to have access to counseling services. For those out-of-state students unable to currently access CAPS services, staff members are available to help find referrals for services in the student’s home state.
If your student participates in remote counseling, here are some tips for helping your student adjust to remote counseling services:
- Help them find a confidential place in your home free from distractions or interruptions.
- Provide privacy for your student to engage in services alone.
- Discuss ways in which your student would like to be supported throughout the process.
- Continue to encourage the importance of mental health and self-advocacy for self-care.
- Check in with your student to see if they feel that remote sessions are a good fit.
In addition to individual counseling sessions, CAPS offers many group services. Current group offerings include:
- Coping with COVID Workshop.
- Gratitude Group.
- Guided Mindfulness.
- International Support Group.
- Mixed Graduate Process Group.
Students can also engage with counselors by participating in Dish It Up, a group discussion in partnership with the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services (OASIS). Virtual Let’s Talk sessions will be available for the first time this fall.
