Volunteers sought for MLK Week of Service

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is offering students, faculty and staff an opportunity to participate in a week of service that honors the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

The  MLK  Week of Service is a way to transform MLK’s life and teachings into community service that helps solve social problems.

The event, happening Jan. 23-27, features a different partnering nonprofit organization each day. The service activity on Wednesday, Jan. 25 is the only one occurring on the UNL campus.

The volunteer times and locations are:

10 a.m. to 12 p.m. January 23
Tabitha Nursing Home - organize Melas on Wheels food kits and deliver food to individuals in the community.

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. January 24
Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach – serving at mealtime

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. January 25 @ Nebraska Union, Centennial Room
United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County - assembling 2,000 hunger kits for distribution in the community. Kits include oatmeal, sugar & salt.

1 to 3 p.m. January 26
Food Bank of Lincoln – organize and distribute food to recipients.

10 a.m. to 12 p.m. January 27
Center For People in Need – organize and distribute food to recipients.
