Students arriving on campus this fall will find several new resources to assist them academically. The new First-Year Experience and Transition Programs is offering one-on-one academic coaching, academic success workshops, and Study Stops across campus. Academic Success Coaches, Nicole Smith and Cheryl Pflueger, are ready to meet with students to work on areas such as time management, goal setting, transitioning to college, or understanding learning styles. Students can schedule a one-on-one session with an Academic Success Coach (http://success.unl.edu/about-us) through MyPLAN located on Blackboard.

Your student is also encouraged to attend interactive workshops (http://success.unl.edu/workshops) on topics such as exam preparation, reading strategies, effective note taking and more! Workshops are held once a week on Wednesdays in Love South 110 throughout the semester. No pre-registration is required.

Your student also can take advantage of Study Stops, Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 PM -10:00 PM. These designated campus areas are designed for individual and group study in a coffee house setting. Students should make the Study Stop part of their regular routines to achieve academic excellence. In addition to free coffee, consultants and tutors from a variety of academic areas are on hand at the Study Stops to provide free advice and academic support. No appointments are necessary—just drop on by. Students can find the schedule and locations at http://success.unl.edu.

We encourage you to talk with your student about how to succeed in the first six-weeks of school by following a helpful checklist (http://success.unl.edu/documents/first-six-weeks.pdf). First-Year Experience and Transition Programs wants to partner with you to support your students in their UNL academic experience.

First-Year Experience and Transition Programs is located in Love Library South 127. Staff members can be reached at 402-272-1880 and success@unl.edu.
