Your student’s academic advisor is an important resource on campus. Academic advisors are not just for picking out classes, advisors act as your student’s main university contact. If your student has a question and doesn’t know who they should ask their question to, they can start with their advisor and he or she can either answer their question or connect them with the appropriate person on campus. Additionally, advisors are great resources to help connect students with campus involvement opportunities, academic resources available across campus, and career and research opportunities.

Most advisors and advising centers on campus see students on a walk-in and appointment basis. Students can make appointments with their academic advisor either via email or via MyPLAN’s appointment feature in Blackboard. Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor a minimum of once per semester. A great time for students to schedule an appointment with their academic advisor is before priority registration.

Priority registration dates for Spring 2016 are October 26 – November 10. As priority registration approaches each student will be assigned a unique date and time to enroll in classes for the Spring 2016 semester, which is made available on your student’s MyRED under “Message Center”. Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor prior to this unique date so that they can enroll in appropriate classes as soon as possible. Encourage your student to plan ahead and meet with their academic advisor early and often.
