Student Legal Services Offers Free Legal Help to UNL Students

Did you know your student has access to free legal advice and representation right here on the UNL campus? Located in room 335 of the Nebraska Union, Student Legal Services (SLS) is staffed by 3 full time attorneys nine to five, Monday through Friday, all year round. This service is provided by The Association Students of the University of Nebraska (ASUN).

Students frequently have questions about citations they have received, consumer matters, landlord and tenant issues, and a variety of other legal topics. The attorneys will meet with any currently enrolled UNL student about any legal question or problem. The SLS attorneys also represent students in court on certain kinds of legal cases arising in Lancaster County. If the student’s case does not fit the SLS guidelines for representation, the attorney will try to help the student locate another source of legal assistance.

Students are not charged a fee when they seek help at SLS because they have already paid for the service through their student fees to the tune of about $3.83 a semester. That is less than the cost of a Runza on game day!

If you or your student would like to know more about Student Legal Services, please visit the SLS website at http://www.unl.edu/asun/sls. An appointment can be scheduled online at the SLS website or by calling 402-472-3350.
