The residence halls will close for Thanksgiving break from 10:00am on November 25th until 1:00pm on November 29th. They will also close for Winter break from 10:00am on December 19th, until 1:00pm on January 8th.
Break Housing Halls that will remain open during this time are as follows:
Apartment Style Halls – Village and Courtyards; Suite Style Halls – Knoll Hall, University Suites and Eastside Suites;
Traditional Style Halls – Fedde, Husker, Pound, and Selleck
Before students leave for break, they should take a few quick precautions to prepare their rooms to be left clean and in good condition (especially as vacancies will be filled by new students for spring semester). And there are a few specific items we want to make sure students do not forget:
• Taking home fish, plants and personal valuables
• Taking home all medication, glasses and contact lenses
• All event and travel tickets, computer and phone chargers (Don’t forget football tickets for the Iowa Game!)
If your student is considering leaving items behind in a residence hall room, they are welcome to do so, they just need to know that they will have no access to the halls until the break ends.
During the closedown period there will be no dining services open on campus. We recommend that students pick up groceries and take advantage of the in room fridges during the break period. We also suggest taking advantage of the in-hall kitchens to make their own meals during this time.
Be assured that during closedown, we do keep the break housing halls operational. The front desks of these halls are open to answer questions that students may have and provide a number of different services. Housing student and professional staff are available and on-call to serve our students’ needs and assist if any emergency situations arise. This staff also assists in offering educational and social programming to the students who remain in the halls.
We hope you and your students have a great and safe holiday season!
