Each month the online magazine UNL Student Health 101 (http://readsh101.com/unl.html) provides you and your students with valuable articles and videos. This month, one article we’re featuring is “Spend Smart- 8 steps to a budget that sticks.” If your student has found it hard to stick to a budget while attending school, this article is for them! Encourage him or her to read the article and then think about some of the questions it poses such as “how much do you spend each month and how much do you earn?” and “what do you need and want?” Simply writing out a budget and setting some goals for how much they would like to save could drastically help your student’s money situation. There are also professionals at the UNL Money Management Center (http://www.unl.edu/smmc/student-money-management-center) who are available to help your student with this process. Don’t forget to talk to your student about the other free resources available on campus like free Student Involvement events, free clinic visits at the University Health Center, and free access to Campus Recreation! Be sure to read UNL Student Health 101 this month for more articles on topics important to UNL students.
