Note on New Licenses

Beginning in 2022, the Nebraska Dept. of Agriculture (NDA) will issue newly-designed pesticide applicator licenses for private, commercial, and noncommercial applicators. These licenses feature a QR code which will allow NDA pesticide inspectors to quickly sign applicators in at training sessions. There will not be a barcode as previously discussed.

Historically, Nebraska commercial/noncommercial pesticide applicator licenses have not listed General Standards (00) under a person’s licensed categories. This sometimes leads to confusion, as an applicator may not be aware that he/she needs to recertify in 00 because it is not on his/her license. New commercial/noncommercial applicator licenses will list 00 as a licensed category. The new commercial/noncommercial licenses will be blue in color.

Some changes to private licenses should be noted, too. Historically, a private applicator license allowed its holder to purchase and use virtually any restricted-use pesticide, including fumigants. Nebraska’s revised pesticide laws and regulations will change this. If a private applicator wishes to use restricted-use fumigants, he/she will have to obtain separate certification in either Soil Fumigation (01A), Non-Soil/Structural/Rodent Burrow Fumigation (11), or both, depending on how they plan to use fumigants. “Standard” private applicator certification will appear as 00 or “General Agriculture” on licenses. Traditional Private Pesticide Applicator Training will provide this “base” certification. Standard private certification should not be conflated with the commercial/noncommercial General Standards category. Certification (by exam) in categories 01A and/or 11 will result in those being added to a person’s private license (on top of “standard” private certification). The new private licenses will be tan in color.

Lastly, if a private applicator wishes to apply restricted-use pesticides aerially, they will have to obtain a commercial/noncommercial applicator license with an endorsement in the Aerial Pest Control category (12).
