Nestled about 25 miles west of Lincoln, Seward, Neb., (population 7,000) is just small enough that the town’s weekly newspaper features a "Classroom of the Week" in each issue, dedicating a full page to highlight an elementary classroom from a local school. Typically the teachers select students' artwork to brighten the page; but Primarily Math's Connie Meyer chose to feature her students engaged in "talking math." The feature shows Meyer's second-graders working on math problems with captions that transcribe their conversation. For example, little Emalee says, "In the tens column you call it six tens, not just plain old six."
