(10/15/2020)

Although student travel occurring within the state of Nebraska for academic or co-curricular experiences is discouraged, RSOs have requested the opportunity to travel on short day trips. Moving forward some forms of travel will be approved as long as risk mitigation strategies are followed. Travel outside the state of Nebraska or overnight stays is not allowed, except for select situations, and university-sponsored international travel continues to be prohibited. If permitted, in-state student travel for Recognized Student Organization (RSO) and other co-curricular student travel must be approved by Student Affairs.

RSOs and other co-curricular student travel, including undergraduate, graduate, and professional students must comply with the following guidance:
-RSOs or other co-curricular student travel must have an approved Student Affairs Travel Exemption Request Form prior to submitting their Event Request Form for approval. Travel Exemption Request Forms must be submitted 2 weeks prior to travel dates to allow ample time to review.
-Departments and programs organizing student travel for off-campus academic and co-curricular experiences are expected to follow the university’s health and safety guidelines (physical distancing, face coverings, hand sanitization, etc.), including while traveling to and from the off-campus locations. Organizers must ensure students who are not able to participate in such travel receive alternative accommodations for the experience to ensure equity and inclusion.
-Any university-sponsored student travel should occur only if the travel can be conducted in full compliance with public health guidance issued by both the State of Nebraska and the CDC. It is the responsibility of the faculty or staff member organizing the trip (instructor, RSO advisor, etc.) to ensure that the student travel is fully compliant.
-Any university-sponsored student travel (in university or personal vehicles) must adhere to the university’s rule of one person per vehicle, unless they live in the same household or the students feel comfortable riding in the same vehicle. Please review the Fleet Management COVID-19 information and FAQ page (found here: https://fleetmanagement.unl.edu/covid-19-updates) for further details and updates. Drivers of the vehicles are also required to disinfect vehicles before and after each use.

*Please note: Student travel for academic and co-curricular experiences can be cancelled without notice at any time, even if previously approved, at the university’s discretion in the interest of health and safety.*
