Your Advisor's role comes with some important responsibilities, specifically related to RSO funds. Advisors are responsible for signing off on financial transactions for the RSO to ensure compliance is maintained with the Student Organization Financial Services (SOFS) policies and procedures. The Advisor’s signature is necessary on all Payment Requests to prove that the transaction has been reviewed and that the expenditures have been determined to be appropriate and reasonable. Remember – to expense money for events, an RSO needs to have an EPR completed.
You, as the the RSO leaders, need to be making decisions regarding your funding – where to obtain funding, how to spend the money, etc. Your Advisor should make sure spending adheres to University policies regarding spending money. Advisors generally know some resources available to the RSO for funding opportunities. Funding opportunities from SLICE or Student Affairs are generally listed on NvolveU, under the Forms Tab.
If you have questions about the SOFS policies or how to help your RSO leaders be successful, you can reach out to SOFS@unl.edu for more information. RSOs are student-driven, and the Student Leadership, Involvement, & Community Engagement team is here to help!
