Out-of-State Student Leader Opportunity

The Office of New Student Enrollment is currently seeking out-of-state student group leaders for the 2014 calendar year. During the spring semester, leaders will meet up to five times as a group to receive training about out-of-state students and to brainstorm and plan. During the fall semester, each leader will be responsible for implementing their plans with the incoming freshmen and transfer students from their state or region. These positions will receive a $250 textbook scholarship upon completion of the program.

Qualifications:
• Have attended UNL since August 2013 or earlier
• Will continue attending UNL until December 2014 or longer
• Domestic students whose home state is outside of Nebraska
• Be willing to commit approximately 20 hours during the spring semester toward planning (some group sessions and some independent work)
• Commit to hosting an activity during Big Red Welcome, one during Labor Day weekend, and at least one event per month during the fall semester
• Minimum cumulative UNL GPA of at least 2.5
• Experience with social media is helpful, as you will be in charge of the Facebook group for your state/region
• A desire to help incoming freshmen and transfer students from outside Nebraska and to serve as a leader for them in their first semester

We especially encourage students from these states to apply (though anyone is welcome and encouraged), as we typically have many incoming students from:
• California
• Colorado
• Illinois
• Iowa
• Kansas
• Minnesota
• Missouri
• South Dakota
• Texas
• Wisconsin

Future goals of this program include creating self-sustaining RSOs for each of the above groups and/or involving support from Nebraska alumni living in these different regions.

If you are interested in being a leader in this new program, please apply online at http://go.unl.edu/z2wf. (This application is not too lengthy, but please set aside a few minutes as you will need to answer 3 short essays, list two references, and provide information about your current schedule.) Applications are entirely online and are due by 8am on February 24, 2014. Contact Jamie Unger at junger2@unl.edu if you have any questions. Thank you!
