This contest is one of the Sillerman Center for the Advancement of Philanthropy strategies to democratize philanthropy. By motivating students to think about it, and increase the number of involved students, we hope to create more campus buzz about giving and generosity. We hope that it's a motivator for universities to get the word out to their students. Winners and runners up earn the right to publicize our Generous U 2014 banner on web and print collaterals.
The first prize is $10,000 and runner-up prizes are $1,000. The prize can be used to further philanthropy on campus or can be directed to a charitable cause. Our judges are philanthropists, business men and women, and higher education professionals (and students) who review essays and YouTube submissions from entrants.
