French culture week is a week where UNL and the Lincoln community will be able to learn about French culture in their own backyard. The event will occur at the Sheldon Art Museum from April 5th through the 8th.
Prior to French Culture Week, we are raising money with Kickstarter to fund a scholarship to help send a UNL student abroad to learn more about France and other Francophone cultures. To donate they can search Kickstarter and find the page UNL French Culture Week and Study Abroad Scholarship. The winner will be announced at the reception of Une Semaine Française à UNL on Friday the April 8th.
The French/Francophone club will be holding a bake sale Monday the 4th and Tuesday the 5th from 10 am to 12 pm to promote and raise money for the event at the city campus union. We are hoping to raise between a $100-200.
From the 5th through the 8th, we will be giving tours at select times in both French and English at the Sheldon Art Museum. The tours will show a variety of the exhibits at the Sheldon and how they pertain to French culture as well as show a special French exhibit that celebrates France’s national month of poetry. The tours will be during the following times throughout the week: Tuesday April 5th, from 3-5 pm, Wednesday April 6th from 11 am -1 pm. Thursday April 7th from 3-5 pm and Friday April 8th from 12 pm-2 pm.
There will be an open house reception at the Sheldon from 4-5 pm on the 8th where the scholarships recipient(s) will be announced. Following the reception, the guests will be invited to view a French film in the auditorium. All of the activities are free and open to the public.
UNL French/Francophone is working in conjunction with the Sheldon, The Normandy, Kickstarter, and the French Embassy.
