With the Broader Considerations of Technology Lecture Series, we aim to address some of the anxieties among society regarding technology and its societal impacts. Our next lecture in this series is on Technology and Democratic Engagement.

This lecture will feature Dr. Mohammad Hasan and Professor Matt Waite. Dr. Hasan is a professor from the UNL Computer Science and Engineering Department, and his research is focused on Machine Learning and Data Science. Professor Waite is from the College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Professor Waite began working as a hybrid journalist/programmer, combining reporting experience and Web development to create new platforms for journalism.

The following questions will be addressed:
- How is technology influencing our democratic process?
-How do social media algorithms influence the information we receive?
- Can social media increase voter turnout?
- What are the societal implications and how can we address these concerns moving forward?

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, October 24th from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Ethel S Abbott Auditorium of the Sheldon Museum of Art.

This event is free and open to all UNL students, faculty, and staff, as well as the general public.
