Congratulations to CLS Winners

Congratulations to two Global Studies majors who have been awarded the prestigious Critical Language Scholarship funded by the U.S. Department of State. Esbeidy Chavez and Sadie Ritter will spend their summer in a fully funded intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program.

Esbiedy Chavez is a Global Studies major with a minor in Business from Sutton, NE. This summer Esbeidy will be studying Punjabi at the American Institute of Indian Studies.

Why did you apply for CLS?
I applied for the CLS Program because I knew that this would be a great opportunity to be exposed to a culture that is relatively different than mine. As an aspiring Foreign Service Officer, this experience will be a great opportunity in helping me not only meet my academic and professional goals, but also promote the United States interest around the world, in the future. What I hope to gain from the program is to develop linguistic skills as well as bonding, and forming strong friendships along the way.

Sadie Ritter is a triple major in Global Studies, Political Science, and Russian with a minor in Spanish
from Alma, NE. This summer Sadie will be studying Russian at the National Research Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod.

Why did you apply for CLS?
I applied because I know that the CLS program is perfect for improving my Russian, challenging myself, and becoming more knowledgeable of Russian culture and lifestyle. Over the summer, I hope to Improve my overall knowledge of the language and culture as it is essential for my goal of being able to create meaningful relationships between the people of the United States and Russia.
