INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
FALL SEMESTER 2021
COLLECTIONS RESEARCH INTERN
SHELDON MUSEUM OF ART
The Sheldon Museum of Art seeks a Collections Research Intern to receive
academic credit (not paid) for the Fall 2021 semester. The student must
enroll in their department's internship course in order to earn academic
credit for this internship.
The Sheldon Museum of Art is planning an exhibition that features works of
art acquired over the past decade. The purpose of the exhibition is to
showcase the variety of conversations that art of different mediums and
scale can inspire a university campus to have. The collections research
intern will conduct research on individual objects in preparation for the
exhibition and accompanying exhibition catalogue.
Over the course of the internship, the intern will gain experience in the following skills:
• Object-based research (familiarity in major sources and databases used in art historical and museum research, and close study of objects to inform and develop research questions)
• Museum standards in compiling research in digital and hard copy formats
• Museum collection database management
• Familiarity with a variety of museum careers, best practices, and current issues museums are facing
The intern will be supervised and mentored by the associate curator of
exhibitions.
Candidates must be enrolled at UNL, completed at least two semesters of
college with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have an interest in research and in
art.
