You are cordially invited to a celebration of “Carnival as a Form of Resistance” Thursday, April 25 from 4:00-6:00p at Nebraska Innovation Studio.
From the early ritual and dances of the African coast, to the secretive nature of rituals in Barbudan caves, Carnival allowed its participants to worship forbidden gods and to express disdain for oppressors; criticizing them in song and dance.
A collaborative museum exhibit between the College of Arts and Sciences- Department of Anthropology, School of Journalism and Mass Communications and the School of Art, Art History and Design- Graphic Design Program, it brings together the findings of ritual and the celebration of Carnival from its early beginnings to the early 1950s in Antigua and Barbuda.
