Favorite Book and why: Currently, The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom; I love how it’s a quick happy read and no matter how many times I’ve read it, it still brings happiness and I gain new perspectives on life every time! One of my many favorite quotes from the book would be “but scenery without solace is meaningless”.

Favorite Movie and why: I don’t watch many movies, but my favorite would be The Princess Diaries, I’d say! I grew up watching it and it just is that go-to movie.

Why Global Studies?
I wanted to be more than just a Psychology major and I wanted to learn about the world and its people and that led me to choose Global Studies as my minor. Global Studies being an interdisciplinary subject really does feed my passion and I’ve never regretted a second of being a Global Studies minor. It doesn’t only encourage you to be a global thinker but also shapes you into a great global citizen. Moreover, it has such a well-rounded nature that it fits everybody no matter what their interests are.

Recommended Courses:
GLST 160, International Relations with Dr. Patrice McMahon was one of the most challenging 100 level course I have taken but it was really interesting to learn about the fundamentals of International Relations. It was the first Global Studies class I took, and it definitely continued the spark of my interest in Global Studies. GLST 201, Introduction to Global Studies with Dr. Emira Ibrahimpašić was also an eye-opening class, it taught me how to relate my knowledge of a particular part of the world to larger trends and issues that affect the whole globe.

I honestly hope everybody considers doing at least a minor in Global Studies as it just really brings you new perspectives of the world and creates bridges between you and other cultures. Not only that, it makes you the global citizen you need to be. To new Global Studies majors, I am glad you chose this major and I hope you will always be open to new experiences, go participate in a study abroad program, meet new people with cultures you are not familiar with, step out of your comfort zones! Also, with Global Studies being flexible, I also think it is extremely important to know and define what your goals are and tailor your academics to them.

Study Abroad Experience:
I am currently an international student here in UNL and it has been nothing short of an exhilarating experience, to say the least! I have met great friends and learned so much more than my textbooks can teach. It is the intangible things that will never be replaced that makes the experience unique and beautiful. That being said, I am excited to embark on yet another study abroad journey but this time in Rome, Italy during the Summer!

What are your post-graduation plans?
My goal is to eventually work my way up to be a clinical psychologist, so I definitely want to attend graduate school for that reason. But before that, I am hoping that I could work a job that exposes me to the field of psychology to gain some experience. While I am doing that, I also wish to travel as much as I can!
