On August 1st the School of Natural Resources will welcome its new Director, Dr. John P. Carroll and Dr. Mark Kuzila will end his appointment as Acting Interim Director on July 31st. Mark says “I look forward to working with John; I know he will move the School forward and I’m excited for our future.”
Dr. Carroll plans to make time over the next few months to meet with small groups of students, staff and faculty; he looks forward to getting to know faces and names. He plans some blocks of time each week to be out of his office and to be visible in our building. He said “I very much look forward to the new challenges of the director position in SNR. No doubt the team in SNR will over the next few months begin to understand my unique management style. Generally, I am going to make myself available to the SNR team at any time.” Appointments can be scheduled by contacting Sharon Kelly.
Dr. Carroll recently moved to Lincoln and is settling in to the community and his office here in Hardin Hall. On beginning his appointment at SNR he shares “We are at an interesting time in the history of American education, especially for those of us who believe in public universities. There is no doubt that a great deal of change is in store for us and I believe our challenge is to make sure that we are actively involved in the direction of that change rather than reacting to it. This is also a time when the School of Natural Resources must be recognized for its value to the university and society in terms of the tripartite mission of the institution. Each of us in SNR contribute to that mission in different ways and my job will be to help create an atmosphere where that contribution is valued and rewarded. With that in place I believe that our united front will demonstrate to all on the outside that we really do provide immense service.”
