NE Game and Parks 'Birding Day' is May 14

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Southeast District's "Birding Day" will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 14 near the Nebraska Eastern Saline Wetlands.

Speakers for the event include: Tom Malmstrom, Eastern Saline Wetlands Conservation Partnership Coordinator - Eastern Saline Wetland Overview; Gordon Coke, The Flatwater Group, Inc. - Eastern Saline Wetlands Restoration Techniques; Dan Schulz, Resources Coordinator for Lower Platte South NRD - Management in the Eastern Saline Wetlands; and Joel Jorgensen, NGPC Nongame Bird Program Manager - "Secretive" Bird Survey Work.

The group will meet at 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Little Salt Fork Marsh Preserve NRD, one-half mile west of the intersection of North 1st St. and Raymond Rd. on the north side of Raymond Road. From there, the will divide into groups. Transportation will also be available from the Game and Parks Headquarters at 2200 N. 33rd St. Please indicate when you RSVP if you would like to carpool from the Game and Parks Headquarters. The group will depart by 7 a.m.

A unch will be provided at 11 a.m. for $5, but attendees may bring sack lunches. The group will meet for lunch and speakers at the Raymond City Park.

Remember to bring binoculars, bird identification guide, camera, insect repellant, chair (for lunch), appropriate clothing for the weather and appropriate footwear for birding in a wetland (calf-high rubber boots will be sufficient).
