Natural Resource majors wishing to pursue employment opportunities with environmental consulting firms or with environmental branches of state and federal agencies may wish to check out a new course that is being offered this in spring 2012.

Fundamental of Environmental Sampling (NRES 319/320) is a two-credit online course with a one-credit laboratory. Students will gain the knowledge needed to: (i) develop and execute a comprehensive sampling plan, (ii) correctly obtain samples representative of the environmental matrix; (iii) understand how samples are processed by commercial laboratories; and (iii) perform data quality assessment.

Because this course is still in its formative stages, faculty or staff who routinely collect environmental samples (air, water, soil) or conduct environmental assessments (e.g., wetland delineations) and wish to contribute their skill sets to this course may do so by contacting either Dan Snow or Steve Comfort.

Examples of online lectures and laboratory activities can be found in SNR's Multimedia Archives: http://snr.unl.edu/aboutus/what/multimediaarchives.asp
