STAR - Successful Teaching and Affordable Resources
STAR - Successful Teaching and Affordable Resources

The STAR initiative has been working since spring 2019 to reduce textbook costs through open educational resources, faculty seed grants, and with both the Unizin Engage and Follett Bookstore Access inclusive access programs. These efforts have reduced textbook costs for university students by an estimated $1,593,000.

To date, instructors have initiated thirteen OER projects that have impacted 11,165 students in 22 courses with 181 sections. These projects have saved students $714,000 in book costs. The inclusive access programs through Unizin and Follett have saved students $879,000 in similar costs through spring 2020.

Instructors interested in participating in OER seed grants should contact Brad Severa at bsevera@nebraska.edu. To participate in one of the inclusive access programs, contact the university bookstore for Follett Bookstore Access pricing or Brad Severa for Unizin Engage pricing.
