The Center for Transformative Teaching will host two upcoming workshops for all instructors on Nov. 20 and Dec 1. Both workshops will be available virtually through Zoom.

Making your Course more User-friendly for Students will cover different ways course design impacts the cognitive load of students and will provide practical suggestions for improvement. The last part of the session will involve a hands-on activity where participants will work with other instructors to assess the user-friendliness of one of their current courses.

Engaging Students Through Art: Faculty Collaborations with Sheldon Museum of Art aims to develop students’ critical thinking and visual literacy skills, explore multiple perspectives, approach course material from a different point of view, introduce students to an important resource on campus, get out of the classroom, and experience something new.

“Art can reveal much about the shape of life and society—throughout history and in the here and now, and can help us to imagine possible futures,” said Erin Hanas, curator of academic engagement at Sheldon Museum of Art and workshop facilitator. “Art invites us to consider multiple perspectives. It has the potential to spark awareness and engagement, to see ourselves, others, and the world in new ways.”

The Sheldon has worked with dozens of departments over the years to help expand students’ minds with the power of art and is hoping to broaden their reach through the workshop.

“I am looking forward to not just sharing information about Sheldon, but also collaborating with faculty to develop experiences, programs, and initiatives that will support their teaching and research and benefit their students,” Hanas said.
