Libraries Course Materials for spring semester

While making decisions about textbooks and other course materials for spring classes, the University Libraries invite instructors to share a syllabus or reading list with the Libraries Course Materials program. Staff will review and suggest relevant no-or low(er) cost course materials, including Libraries-licensed, inclusive access, and openly licensed options. For many books, the University Libraries can purchase multi-license e-versions that instructors can make available to their students at no-cost. The program has saved UNL students over $3 million in course material costs since 2022.

Instructors are invited to register for a virtual workshop on Nov. 13 from 2-2:45 p.m. for an overview of the Libraries Course Materials service and tool, including new features for the spring semester.

Instructors can also send a syllabus or reading list to librariesreserves@unl.edu to learn how to integrate a variety of course materials (books, book chapters, articles, websites, streaming video) in Canvas using the Libraries Course Materials tool. Alternatively, they can create their own lists by adding content or by uploading a syllabus to draft an AI-generated list.

The Libraries Course Materials program ensures ADA Title II accessibility by:

  • linking to electronic content, including HTML journal articles, streaming video, websites, and HTML book chapters, whenever possible instead of or in addition to including uploads such as PDF or video files.
  • digitizing print materials at 400 dpi with optical character recognition.
  • digitizing videos for streaming, hosted by YuJa, with English captions and a .txt file transcript available from YuJa by request.
