The number of faculty-led programs offered at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has increased significantly in recent years, from approximately 25 to 55 proposed programs each year. In November 2017, the Education Abroad Office, in consultation with the Education Abroad Advisory Committee (EAAC), transitioned the faculty-led program proposal submission and approval process to the web-based platform, MyWorld.

The application for calendar year 2019 programs is open. To begin the process, one UNL faculty or staff member per program, designated the primary leader, will submit an abstract by January 15. The abstract is comprised of short questions (program term and length, location, course/credit offered, etc.) and a brief program overview. Chairs and deans will approve abstracts by February 1.

The primary leader will then develop and submit a full draft proposal by March 15, and members of the EAAC will provide feedback by April 15. The primary leader will submit a final proposal by May 15. Chairs and deans will approve programs by June 15.

A program budget is no longer required as part of the proposal. Once a program is approved, the Education Abroad staff will work with the leader(s) throughout the summer to solidify the itinerary, on-site partnership(s), and budget, and request budget approval from the chair and dean.

The new proposal timeline will provide students with all program details, including the budget, by mid-August, thereby giving them adequate time and information to commit to learning abroad experiences, and to competitively pursue all scholarship opportunities.
