Nebraska, a state rich in literature, film, drama, television, music, performance and the visual arts, will soon have a new arts magazine. “Artland” launches April 6. The inaugural issue of artland will be unveiled at 6 p.m. on April 6 during the museum’s First Friday reception, scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sheldon Museum of Art.
The magazine’s mission is to create and promote a community of artists and arts organizations by providing a forum for dialogue and news, according to founding editor and Sheldon director Jorge Daniel Veneciano.
“Like roads and rail lines, the magazine will link communities, and, in the process, create greater community among the arts in Nebraska,” he said.
At the launch event, films by Charles Fairbanks, whose work is featured in the magazine, will be screened in Sheldon’s Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium; and jazz pianist Tom Harvill will perform in the museum’s Great Hall throughout the evening.
The launch party is free and open to all. The magazine will be given free to members of the Sheldon Art Association; and will available for purchase for $4.95.
