Campus expansion is adding to the cost of parking at UNL.

Faculty/staff permits for fiscal year 2012-2013 (July 1-June 30) will increase $12 annually ($1 per month) for all surface parking lots, while garage permits will rise $24 ($2 per month). All nine-month student permits — except those for perimeter lots — will increase $18 ($2 per month). The cost of perimeter parking remains unchanged.

This is the first time in three years faculty/staff parking permit prices have increased.

"We are planning to build a new garage at 18th and R streets to replace parking spaces lost to campus building projects including the 18th and R Residence Hall addition, the Campus Rec Outdoor Adventure Center and to accommodate additional campus parking demand," said Dan Carpenter, director of Parking and Transit Services. "This increase allows us to put money away for a down payment on that new garage reducing the amount that we would need to borrow and pay the debt service after construction."

For fiscal year 2012-2013, the cost for annual faculty/staff permits is: Area A, $564; reserved $1,044; and garage $636. Nine-month student permit prices are: Area C, $396; reserved $720; and student garage, $477. A perimeter permit is $312 annually.

Faculty and staff may begin pre-ordering parking permits for the new fiscal year beginning online at http://go.unl.edu/4j8. Over-the-counter orders begin June 1. The new fiscal year begins July 1.

Information needed to complete an order includes an eight-digit NU identification number (located on an NCard) and current vehicle details (license plate, state, color, make, model and year).

Pre-ordered permits will be mailed to faculty/staff campus addresses starting May 2. Online pre-orders for nine-month or semester permits will be mailed to campus addresses in August.
