Working through the Confucius Institute at UNL, 10 Nebraska public school teachers are in China participating in the 2010 Winter Bridge Program. The program is designed to help teachers establish cultural connections and expand bilingual curriculum to include Chinese language in Nebraska public schools.

The trip, which lasts through Dec. 10, is sponsored through a Chinese Bridge fund from Hanban, a branch of the Chinese Ministry of Education. Nebraska teachers participating are from Lincoln, North Platte and Scottsbluff.

More than 400 teachers nationwide are participating in the 2010 Winter Bridge Program. Participants learn about both the language and culture of China. Teachers visit cultural sites in the city of Beijing, as well as several cities and four schools in the Henan Province.
