Legendary football coach Herman Boone will speak at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 9 in the Nebraska Union Ballroom. The lecture is organized by the University Program Council.
Famously portrayed by Denzel Washington in the 2000 film "Remember the Titans," Boone will share his experience of overcoming the odds to take a football team divided by racial intolerance to new heights of a championship, and more importantly, friendship. His 1971 team at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va., went undefeated and won the state championship despite playing in a time when racial integration was met with strong resistance.
Since his retirement, Boone has traveled the country, sharing his story with thousands. For more information on him, go to http://www.apbspeakers.com.
The lecture is free for UNL students with a valid NCard and $5 for all others.
The University Program Council will also screen "Remember the Titans" for UNL students only at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center at 8 p.m. Feb. 8.
