APC announces budget reduction procedures

The Academic Planning Committee has announced procedures for Phase Three of the FY 2012 UNL Budget Reduction Process, in response to Chancellor Harvey Perlman's announced $5 million in proposed reductions. Perlman outlined his proposal to campus on April 14.

Jennifer Brand, APC Chair, made this announcement, leading to a May 10 hearing:

"As most are aware, Chancellor Perlman has recommended specific cuts to the UNL FY2012 budget that call for $5.01 million in reductions. The specific recommendations are located on the UNL web site at: http://www.unl.edu/ucomm/chancllr/2011budget/.

The tasks of the APC are to monitor the process and to review the Chancellor’s proposed cuts in light of their probable impact on the university’s academic mission and recommend them or suggest other ways of meeting the budget reduction goal.

To accomplish this task, the APC welcomes information from all who may be affected by the proposed reductions. This can be accomplished either in person at the scheduled budget hearing or in writing to the Committee. Specifics on presenting at a hearing and how to submit written materials are available on this website: http://www.unl.edu/apc/.

A budget hearing is scheduled for May 10, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Nebraska Union. The room will be posted “Academic Planning Committee Budget Hearing.” Budget hearings are open to anyone: faculty, staff, students and the general public.

This is an open invitation and the APC encourages your participation in this process."

Sincerely,

Jennifer I. Brand, Ph.D.
Chair, Academic Planning Committee and Professor, Engineering Research Center
