The Nebraska Hall of Computing will induct P. Anandan, George Nagy and William "Bert" Sutherland in a Sept. 24 ceremony. Their induction will bring the number of honorees recognized by the hall to a total of nine individuals.

The Nebraska Hall of Computing honors those with ties to Nebraska who have made significant contributions to one or more of the fields of computer and information science and engineering, the development and utilization of computing technology and computing education.

Anandan has been the managing director of Microsoft Research India since 2005. Earlier, as a senior researcher at Microsoft Research headquarters in Redmond, Wash., he built one of the world's strongest research teams in computer vision and video processing. The UNL alumnus is recognized for his pioneering research in video motion analysis.

Nagy led the UNL Department of Computer Science and Engineering as chair and professor during its formative years to establish it on strong foundations of teaching, research and service. He is widely recognized for his research in statistical pattern recognition and document image analysis.

A Nebraska native, Sutherland was the longtime manager of three prominent research labs, Sun Microsystems Laboratories, the Systems Science Laboratory at Xerox PARC (now PARC) and the Computer Science Division of Bolt, Beranek and Newman (now BBN). In addition, Sutherland fostered collaboration between Caltech researchers and PARC on very large-scale integrated circuits, leading to the development of a textbook and distribution of the now ubiquitous VLSI technology.

The Nebraska Hall of Computing is maintained by the UNL Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Plaques celebrating the honorees and their contributions are displayed on the UNL campus. The Nebraska Hall of Computing Website recognizes honorees with biographical sketches and photographs.
