2010: A Husker Odyssey homecoming week events

"2010: A Husker Odyssey" is the theme for Homecoming week. A variety of traditional student-led and alumni-welcoming events are planned during the week, culminating with the Husker football game Sept. 25 vs. South Dakota State.

Events during the week include blood drives on East and City campuses, a residence hall pep rally tailgate, float and lawn-display decorating. The election of royalty takes place 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 online and at the Nebraska Union. The University Program Council will host a concert by Lee Brice and the Kyle Bennett Band, 8 p.m. to midnight Sept. 23 at East Campus Mall. The concert is free for UNL students with their NCards, with buses running from City to East campus. Sponsors include 96.9 KX, the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, ASUN student government and Campus Night Life, in addition to UPC.

Faculty, staff and alumni can donate blood for a blood drive 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 21-23 at the Nebraska Union or at any Community Blood Bank location.

Friday, Sept. 24: Lawn display competition: displays will be complete by 10:30 a.m. with judging at noon by Greek Affairs; Football Friday by Nebraska Alumni Association at Wick Alumni Center: 4:30-6 p.m., doors open at 4:30 with talks by Tommie Frazier and Matt Davison, prize give-aways at 5:45, admission is free and kids games and door prizes will be offered; Homecoming Parade: 6-7 p.m., starting at 16th and Vine streets; Scarlet Guard 'Homecoming Jester' competition: 7 p.m., Wick, judges are Frazier, Danny Noonan, Jenn Gilmore and 2009 royalty Rob Tualauleli and Beth Butler; introduction of Homecoming royalty candidates, Husker Spirit Squad performance: 7-8 p.m., Wick.

Saturday, Sept. 25: Nebraska vs. South Dakota State football game, 6 p.m., Memorial Stadium. King and queen will be crowned at halftime.
