All UNL Windows-based Lync clients will be upgraded to Skype for Business effective, Sunday, July 19. Skype for Business will be replacing the Lync IM/Web conferencing product. Skype features a new interface; including presence and group Instant Messaging (IM), audio and HD video calling, drag-and-drop file sharing and scheduling through Outlook.

User training sessions will be held on both City and East campus. Basic Skype functionality will be covered.

The upgrade will be distributed through the scheduled Windows update. Departments fully managed by ITS will have the updates automatically distributed.  Departments using SCCM to manage their own devices should enable the updates for distribution to their users.

Microsoft has yet to release a Mac client; current mac users will continue to use Lync.
